Stroke Risk

Carotid Artery Assessment in Kuwait

Understand when carotid duplex ultrasound is used for a defined clinical question about plaque, narrowing, known disease, or follow-up.

What carotid duplex checks

The scan evaluates plaque, narrowing, blood-flow velocity, and whether follow-up or specialist review is needed.

When it may be considered

A clinician may request carotid duplex after a stroke or TIA, for a carotid bruit, to follow known carotid disease or a previous procedure, or for another specific referral question. Diabetes, smoking, cholesterol, blood pressure, or age alone do not make this a routine screening test for every asymptomatic adult.

Important Signs to Mention

Prior stroke or TIA
Carotid bruit
High cholesterol
Smoking history
