Leg Swelling in Kuwait: When Do You Need a Vascular Ultrasound?

Why Leg Swelling Needs a Careful History
Leg swelling is common in Kuwait, especially in hot weather, long working hours, pregnancy, long flights, and jobs that require standing. The important question is not simply whether the leg is swollen, but whether the pattern suggests a vascular cause.
One Leg or Both Legs?
Swelling in one leg can raise concern for deep vein thrombosis, venous obstruction, venous insufficiency, injury, infection, or lymphatic disease. Swelling in both legs may be related to venous reflux, medications, heart or kidney disease, low protein levels, or prolonged sitting.
When Ultrasound Helps
Vascular ultrasound can assess:
- Deep vein thrombosis
- Venous reflux and valve failure
- Previous clot damage
- Superficial vein problems
- Arterial circulation when symptoms suggest poor blood flow
Symptoms That Need Urgent Care
Seek urgent medical care first if swelling is sudden or severe, especially with chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing blood, fainting, fever, or a cold painful foot.
How to Coordinate Safely
Use WhatsApp only to coordinate the requested exam name, if known, and preferred time. Do not send when swelling started, which leg is affected, pain, travel or surgery history, pregnancy status, medicines, previous clots, referrals, reports, or photos there. Bring them to the visit or wait for the clinic to confirm a secure channel. Call 112 for emergency symptoms.
The Goal of the Scan
The goal is to identify whether the swelling is caused by a vascular problem and to give your doctor a clear report for the next step.
